Syamalakumaran Nair – known as Syam – was the visionary behind Penta Global. With over 40 years of international experience in engineering, construction and project execution, Syam was a driving force in the energy, oil & gas, petrochemical and metallurgical sectors across Africa, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

A mechanical engineering graduate from Trichore Engineering College, Syam earned his Master’s degree in fuel & energy engineering from the University of Leeds in 1977.

In 2004, Syam founded Penta Global with a clear mission: to build a reputable, multi-disciplined construction company capable of supporting major infrastructure and energy projects in the region. Drawing on decades of experience, Syam brought together a team of like-minded professionals and built a culture rooted in trust, reliability and excellence. Under his leadership, Penta Global experienced rapid growth and earned a reputation for delivering complex projects to the highest standards.

Before founding Penta Global, Syam held several senior roles including Regional Director at Ranhill Worley, where he oversaw business operations across the Middle East and Africa. Prior to this, Syam was the Country Head at Dodsal Engineering, where he was instrumental in expanding the company’s presence in Malaysia, Egypt and Sudan. He also spent 15 years leading the Engineering and Maintenance Division at Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines managing large-scale industrial operations.

Syam’s legacy lives on in the values that continue to guide Penta Global. His vision, integrity and relentless pursuit of excellence remain the foundation of the company’s growth and culture today.
